Bette Parker Stambaugh, 91, passed away on February 12th, in her daughter’s home.

Bette was born on July 21, 1927 in Bakersville, North Carolina. She grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee and spent much time in Bakersville, North Carolina, where her parents were born. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport in 1945, then attended Berea College and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Economics. It was at Berea that she met her future husband Harry, right after he returned to his education at Berea after serving in the Army on Saipan. They were married in Kingsport, TN. They lived in several cities as Harry continued his medical training, including Memphis, Lexington, KY and New York City. They then settled in Louisville and raised their family.  Mom worked for the FBI in Louisville for several years. Upon Harry's retirement, they moved to Shelbyville, and then back to Louisville.

Bette was a loving wife and mother, whose greatest joy was her family. A highly intelligent lady, she was the epitome of honesty, loyalty and kindness to all. She was blessed with many wonderful friends throughout her life. She was a truly excellent cook and loved to read, travel and garden. She served as a Cub Scout leader, was a Treasurer for the PTA, volunteered for Reading for the Blind, and served in many volunteer positions after leaving the FBI and was a former member of Suburban Christian Church. Bette faced many medical issues over the last 20 years and met each head on with strength and determination.

Bette is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Elizabeth Green Parker and her loving husband of 68 years, Harry D. Stambaugh, M.D., and her brother, Sonny Parker.

She is survived by her loving children, Teresa and Mark. She is also survived by two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren, who she truly adored.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to her many dear friends. She loved you so much. We want to also thank her aides who helped with mom in the last eighteen months. You are special souls who will be remembered for your kindness and love.

Visitation will be 11AM – 2PM Friday, at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Lane Louisville, KY 40207 with private burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
